September Favourites 2014

September Favourites

As I might have mentioned in previous posts, I am currently trying to make use of the products I currently own, rather than simply buying new ones. Therefore, I get to actually re-discover products I may have put aside or didn’t have the chance to really try.

Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Gel Foundation in Dark Beige (55)

Since I’ve been at work, I’ve been using the e.l.f. mineral foundation in Warm and had totally forgot about this product. It was only this past month that I actually got into using it. It applies nice and even. I must admit, even though it is quite pigmented, once you buff it in to the skin, it is much more sheer than I expected it to be. Therefore, I personally need a good two layers of it and then going in back with concealer (keep in mind my problematic skin). The shade I have is slightly dark for me and could have gone a shade lighter as it may show up slightly orange. Then again, thanks to my ‘tan’, I can get away with it for now. What I really like about this product is that it feels really light on the skin and really does last. When I’m wearing it, it feels like a barely have got anything on and especially in Malta’s humid weather, that’s a major plus.

The Body Shop Hand Sanitizer in Coconut

You probably know by now that I love my hand sanitizers. In fact, I already have two new ones waiting to be used. The main reason I use hand sanitizers so much is that I have such a bad habit of constantly touching my face. Apart from that, I use public transport daily, and if you have ever used public transport yourself, you will understand that not everyone is hygienic, which quite frankly, disgusts me.

Bourjois 123 CC Eye Cream in Light Beige

I had been eyeing this product for a while so I was quite excited to try it out. To be quite honest, I think I prefer my Maybelline Concealer more than I this one. What I really like about this product is that it does cover up those dark circles and also brightens my under eye area. Therefore, I like to use this most when I need to look like a had 10 hours of sleep. I also do like the consistency of it, but again, I prefer the Maybelline one. It did crease a couple of times on me, but when I took the time to set it really well, I didn’t as much creasing. We also have to keep in mind that during the month of September, it is still quite hot and humid in Malta. Therefore, some products that might be fantastic in other countries, may have varied results here due to the climate.

Bourjois Concealer

Real Techniques Stippling Brush

As you may know, I love the Real Techniques brushes quite a bit, so it’s no surprise that this ended up in my favourites. Even though I normally go for the Expert Face Brush for foundation application, I reached out for this brush more this month, especially when applying the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum. I prefer this buffed in finish with the particular base I use, giving off a very natural healthy-looking finish. Since it has short bristles, it gives you a controlled, even application, which I really like. This is definitely a brush a would recommend to anyone!

And those were all the things I was loving this month!

Birmingham Haul

Okay, so as I mentioned in my previous blog post, I very recently went to Birmingham on holiday. Let’s just say that I miiiight have gone a tad crazy when it comes to shopping. In this post I will only be showing you the beauty items I picked up but if you would like to also see the clothing items I purchased, I will gladly dedicate a blog post for that too.

Superfacialist by Una Brennan Rose Hydrate Intense Moisture Mask

Starting off with skincare, this face mask had been on my “What-to-buy-from-Birmingham” list for ages, simply because it’s only sold at Boots. So needless to say, after searching the shelves thoroughly (I literally had to go to a different Boots stores to find it), I was really glad that I got hold of this product. I already tried this face mask and it is just so refreshing! I don’t have particularly dry skin (if you do, go pick it up!) but due to Malta’s heat I tend to be always either in the sun or in an air-conditioned room, leaving my skin drier than usual. If you live in the UK or simply can get hold of this easier than I did, I recommend the search as it’s a great pick-me-up.

Sanctuary Spa Deep Cleanse Facial 5 Minute Thermal Detox Mask

I can’t believe how much I love this mask already…and I only used it twice. As the name of the mask implies, this product heats up on application (which is already super awesome), giving your face a good clean. Since it heats up, it’s basically opening up those pores so as to really cleanse your skin and let the charcoal treatment work. Charcoal treatments are great for cleansing the skin and even better for reducing and/or getting rid of breakouts and blemishes. Personally, I have been struggling with breakouts around my chin and lower cheeks for some time now so I was super excited to get this. I desperately want the GlamGlow Super-Clearing Mud Mask Treatment but don’t afford the splurge, so this will have to do for now.

Rimmel London Scandaleyez Waterproof Kohl Kajal in Black

There wasn’t really a reason why I got this from the UK, as they are very easily found in Malta – but it’s waterproof and now I can tightline!

Bourjois Paris Rouge Edition Velvet in Hot Pepper (03)

I have a problem, I know. I definitely did not need another red lipstick. Excuse? – This has a matte finish! I’ve seen a couple of YouTubers talk about this product and how much they love it, so I decided to join the club – This lipstick does not budge! Not only is it matte (that means no hair getting stuck to your lips!), but it’s quite long lasting. I wore it the other night and after drinking two beverages and PizzaHut (guilty!), it was still on my lips. Now I have to admit, I did re-apply after dinner, but that’s just because I wanted to make sure the intensity would remain there.

Essie Nail Laquer in Mint Candy Apple

I just had to – the colour was calling out to me. As you may know, when it comes to applying nail polish, I rank amongst the worst and as a result, my nail polish chips in roughly 2 days. Not this one! This colour has been on my nails for 3 days now and no chipping whatsoever. And did I say that I skipped the base and top coat (bad of me, I know) ?! It’s that good. Apart from that, the colour pay off is amazing. I literally just applied 1 coat of this and it went on totally opaque. I am still stunned. Love it!

Collection Lasting Perfection Ultimate Wear Concealer in Dark (04)

I obviously stopped by the Collection stand in Superdrug purely for this product because I’ve heard so many people talk about it, yet I don’t know how I feel about this concealer. Yes, I must admit, I might have picked up a shade too dark (in my defense, there weren’t any testers for the shade lighter than this one) but what’s weird is that it conceals my under-eye circles beautifully, yet looks dark and gloopy on the rest of my face. As I said, I love it for my under eyes as it just blends so easily and the colour is perfect, making me look like I’ve got tons of sleep. On the other hand, when I tried to conceal my blemishes, I looked like I applied cream bronzer over my spots! The good thing about this is that (according to a friend) there are a couple of stores in Malta that stock this concealer so I’ll try and pop by to pick up a shade lighter.

Bourjois Paris Healthy Mix Serum in Dark Beige (55)

Yes, I know there’s the word ‘Dark’, and yes I’ve swatched it before buying it, but this product is just a tad too dark for me. Unlike the concealer, this just makes me look slightly tan (which I don’t mind as I’m slightly tanned already) which means that I just have to make sure I blend really well. Apart from the colour, the consistency is great and stays on for ages. Unfortunately I couldn’t find this anywhere online (neither ASOS) so that’s why I was over the moon when I found it in Superdrug.

Real Techniques Brushes/Tools: Complexion Sponge, Blush Brush, Powder Brush

Speaking of Superdrug, I went a little crazy when I saw that they had an offer on the Real Techniques line. Turns out, I got the sponge for free! I already had a couple of Real Techniques brushes so it was only suitable to add on to the collection. I’ve already used all 3 products (I’m still getting used to sponge application) and these brushes will most probably be my new staple brushes.

M.A.C. : Face and Body Foundation in C4 and 217 Blending Brush

Okay, can we just take a minute to let this sink in – I AM FINALLY A M.A.C. OWNER! Literally, OMG! I still can’t believe it. I walked into Selfridges (and stood out like a sore thumb due to the expression of awe on my face) and BAM! – all the high-end names under one ceiling! You name it – Urban Decay, Benefit, Guerlain, Jo Malone, Bare Minerals, Stila, Esteé Lauder, Elizabeth Arden and so on. Needless to say, I was dying inside and could barely contain myself.

Rant aside, I decided to opt for these two products purely because I have been wanting these two so badly for so long…and because I don’t afford buying more than two M.A.C. products at one go without my bank account screeching at me. I literally got a glimpse of their lipsticks and sadly decided to ignore what I just saw. Nonetheless, I am super pleased with this purchase and can’t wait to get some use out of them! Next M.A.C. purchase: Paint Pot in Soft Ocre and (most probably) their red lipstick, Lady Danger.

And those are all the beauty items I got on my trip to the UK!

What do you recommend me getting next? Did you like the post? Like it! Share your thoughts and comments below 🙂

May Favourites 2014

You know time is flying by when May is already over and exams are just round corner! I was quite hesitant in gathering my May favourites because it’s the first time I had to look back on what I loved the past month. Without rambling on too much, here are a couple of things that stood out the most in May. Enjoy!

The Body Shop Coconut Body Mist – €10.50

This just smells gorgeous. I mentioned this product in my recent Body Shop Haul, if you want to go check that out 😉 This stays on for a good 4 hours i would say which is very good for a mist as they aren’t as strong as perfumes. If you like the smell of coconut, I definitely recommend this!

The Body Shop Camomile Silky Cleansing Oil – €13.70

I’ve been using this all month long to see how it works with my skin – and I absolutely love it! It removes waterproof makeup really easily leaving your skin so clean and soft. I find that it also doesn’t dry the skin like some other cleansers do – and it’s good for all skin types, which is a plus. Oil-based products are really good for the skin as they don’t strip the skin from its natural oils, but on the contrary, they balance and nourish the skin which really helps with breakouts and acne-prone skin.

Bourjois 123 Perfect CC Cream in Light Beige – €14.07

I’ve never had a CC cream before, so I was really excited to try this. It goes on really smoothly, easily an blends beautifully. It’s medium coverage but it is quite buildable so that doesn’t bother me. There are days where I really don’t feel like putting on foundation (especially because it’s so hot and humid in Malta!), so this really comes in handy. I apply it by dotting it onto my face and blending with my fingers as I find that it gives me easier and even application.

Nivea Original Lip Butter – €3

I think I have just found one of my all time lip care products! This lip butter keeps your lips so moisturised and hydrated, making them so so soft! Since the product comes in a tin container (i don’t really know how to explain it..), just make sure that you have clean hands when applying the lip butter because otherwise you’ll make the product inside the tin container really yucky and full of bacteria.

 Darkhorse by Katy Perry

I must admit, when I first heard the song, I REALLY didn’t like it. But it seems that it’s stuck on replay on radio because they can’t seem to stop playing it. This is one of those songs that I start liking after listening to it over and over. And now, I can actually say that I love it! And being honest, my favourite bit is Juicy J’s part. I try so hard to have the rapper swag when singing along…and needless to say, I fail MISERABLY. A for effort, I suppose.

Becky’s by Rebecca Borg

My favourite person of the month has to be my friend, Rebecca from Becky’s. Not only is she one of the sweetest people I know, but she is also SUPER talented at creating all kinds of yummy treats – go check her out now! For all you Maltese people who would like to try out some of her yummy goodness, you can always contact her to make an order, and believe me – you won’t be disappointed! (She had made me a dark chocolate birthday cake and it was DIVINE). Oh and Reb, if you’re reading this – SURPRISE! 🙂 x

And that’s all for today!
