Top 5 Autumn/Winter Lipsticks

I don’t know about you, but Autumn is my favourite season. I love Autumn’s fashion (even though, I’m still learning how to layer outfits), makeup looks, change in weather, and everything else really. Even though in Malta, it still feels like Summer – it literally only rained once, and we’re sometimes having hotter days than in Summer – I still try to find any excuse to transition into the Autumn season.

Today, I’ll be sharing with you my favourite Autumn/Winter lipsticks. I must admit, the majority are red, but I can’t help it! In fact, that is why I merged the two seasons together because in Winter all I wear is either lip balm, or a red lip.

Rimmel London Apocalips Lip Laquer in Celestial – €7.79

These lip laquers from Rimmel are just amazing. They glide so smoothly, and their colour pay-off is ridiculous! Even though I like nude lips, I don’t find that it soothes me that much, so this (and another lipstick I’ll be showing you) is the next best thing. I absolutely love this!

Rimmel London Kate Lasting Finish Matte Lipstick in 107 – €7.14

This lipstick is probably my most worn lipsticks of all time! I just love it! The 107 has been such a hit in the beauty community – the winter season would not go by without someone raving about it. Not only is it a deep red, but it applies as a matte satin finish which is just gorgeous – this means that it will last more than your regular lipstick (most mattes last longer) without drying your lips out. I currently have super dry lips because of the medication I’m taking, and this feels so good on my lips. Can’t recommend it enough!

Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Colour Moisturising Lipstick in Power Red – €22.10

This gorgeous baby is the only high-end lipstick I own – and I absolutely love it! Unlike the Rimmel 107, it’s a creamy true red colour and has a gorgeous shine to it. Apart from the gold packaging being so luxurious and classy, the colour pay-off is outstanding – I went out to eat and after stuffing myself with food, it was still there on my lips! A bit pricey, I know – but you can always wait for a offer! 😉

The Body Shop ColourGlide Shine Lip Colour in 11 – Rare Coral

As I previously said, I’m not really a nude person as I feel that most nudes wash me out, but I don’t mind this one. It is actually the only nude I own and did get it as a gift – If I had to choose, I think I’d rather go for a nude with more pink-bluish undertones. This is mainly because I have yellow undertones to my warm-neutral skin, and therefore, products that have orange undertones can make me look even more yellow/orange. Nonetheless, I don’t mind this – it’s very creamy, smooth and hydrating. I only wore this a couple of times when I had heavier eye-makeup, and I liked the way it looked on me. This means I need to invest in some more nude lipsticks!

NYX Round Lipstick in Black Cherry (LSS575) – €5

This creamy lipstick is in a class of it’s own. I just love the intensity and colour pay-off this lipstick gives! Even though it is a very dark vampy red, it has brown and purple undertones to it that make it so wintery. Just like the Rimmel 107, it does not dry your lips out, being it is matte. Another thing I love about this product is that you can determine how dark your lips are going to be based on preference – you can really build this product up. Love it!

Here are the swatches for each lipstick mentioned 🙂 I apologise for the quality of some of the photos – Will try to get that sorted ASAP.

And that’s all for today!

Products I’ve Used Up #1

Today I’ll be sharing with you a couple of products that I’ve completely used up these past months. Unfortunately, I don’t have a lot to show you as I’ve only been collecting my empties since recently.

L’Oreal Professionnel Paris Intense Repair Nutrition Masque

May I just point out how amazing this stuff is?! Believe me when I say that if you have curly, unruly hair, this baby is a lifesaver! My hair gets so dry and tangled that every now and then, I used to comb a small amount of this mask through my hair (emphasising mostly on the tips) and just rinse it out after 2 minutes. My hair would not only be shinier, but also sooo smooth and silky! I definitely recommend this product especially for people with tangled, frizzy, curly hair – and it lasts for ages! Love it!

Maybelline New York Instant Age Rewind Concealer

Not a lot to say about this product since I’ve already mentioned my love for this concealer so many times before. I obviously had a backup for this but now I have to buy a backup for my backup! (if that makes sense) – Anyway, you can never have too much concealer in your collection.

The Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Cream

I’m not very fussy about moisturiser, I must admit, but I’ve really been enjoying this one. In fact I’m currently on my third tub of this! It’s not too heavy and leaves your skin feeling nice and fresh. It takes some time to be fully absorbed in the skin so I prefer using it at night rather in the morning before I start my makeup routine, but it’s good just the same.

Australian BodyCare TeaTree Oil Wet Wipes

The reason I had got these wipes was because they were on offer and because they were TeaTree infused. I must admit, you can definitely feel the TeaTree working, but they left my face so dry! Plus, sometimes one wipe wouldn’t be enough to remove my makeup or else, I’ll be left with makeup residue the next day. I wouldn’t say they were disappointing because to a certain extent, they did get the job done, but I don’t think I’ll be repurchasing them for now.

The Body Shop Bath & Shower Gel in Spiced Pumpkin

I had bought this round Christmas and only recently have I used up all of it! For those wondering, yes – I do shower everyday, but you only need the tiniest amount (especially if you’re using a loofa) as it really lathers up. The smell is so good, especially during the winter months. I absolutely love this and will definitely be re-purchasing another one in a different scent!

And that’s all for today!

July Favourites 2014

I can’t believe that July has already gone by! That means that Summer is almost over and the saddest thing about that is that I live in a country surrounded by water, yet I’ve only been swimming once 😦 On a positive note, the end of the month means it’s time for a monthly favourites! I’ve gone through the things I’ve used the most and narrowed it down to those items that discovered or re-discovered this month, if that makes any sense.

e.l.f. Lipstick in Classy

This was actually one of the first lipsticks I ever owned and I’m really glad I’m using it again. I had shoved it away for the longest time because I’m always trying new lip products but I took it with me to Birmingham as I wanted an everyday lip, and I immediately remembered why I love it! Even though it’s not that long-lasting, the colour pay-off is just so pretty. The creamy texture together with the colour gives that ‘my lips but better’ look which I absolutely love, especially in Summer.

Sanctuary Spa Deep Cleanse Facial 5 Minute Thermal Detox Mask

As you probably realized, I mentioned this product not too long ago in my Birmingham Haul. The reason I’ve included this in this monthly favourites is because I just can’t get enough of this face mask! I use it about twice a week (even three if I feel like a pick-me-up) and use it only on my problematic areas in conjunction with other face masks.

Collection Lasting Perfection Ultimate Wear Concealer in Dark (04)

Also from my Birmingham Haul is this concealer. It’s not something I particularly love, but I have been using it all month. I like using this mostly to cover up my dark circles and any redness (mostly around my nose). This concealer just makes my dark circles disappear – I actually have been using this together with the Maybelline Age Rewind concealer and it’s fantastic! I don’t use this on my blemishes only because I find it darkens them rather than conceals them. This might be because the shade is slightly dark. I still have to pick up a lighter shade, but other than that it works fine.

Primark Black Bowling Bag

I’ve been looking for an everyday bowling bag for a while now so I was so happy when I stumbled on this baby at Primark! The thing I love most about it is that it’s just the right size – I am not a very ‘big-bag’ type of person so this was just right. Even though it looks small, believe me when I tell you that I can fit a ton of stuff in there! And this is what I mean by the right size – you can fit your umbrella, purse, makeup bag and even(I must admit, not that comfortably) foolscaps. It’s great for everyday but you can also dress it up, which I love. And for just £8 this bag is an absolute bargain!

Primark Black Slip-on Shoes

I finally own a pair of slip-ons! Primark is full of these shoes so I went a bit overboard and bought 3 pairs (I know..), but in my defense they were only £3! I mean, how on earth would I pass on a bargain like that?! Anyway, not only do they go great with almost anything, but they’re also super comfortable. I’ve been living in these from the moment I got them and they didn’t tire me out or irritate my feet whatsoever. Definitely one of the best purchases I made on holiday!

And that’s all for this month’s favourites!

Birmingham Haul

Okay, so as I mentioned in my previous blog post, I very recently went to Birmingham on holiday. Let’s just say that I miiiight have gone a tad crazy when it comes to shopping. In this post I will only be showing you the beauty items I picked up but if you would like to also see the clothing items I purchased, I will gladly dedicate a blog post for that too.

Superfacialist by Una Brennan Rose Hydrate Intense Moisture Mask

Starting off with skincare, this face mask had been on my “What-to-buy-from-Birmingham” list for ages, simply because it’s only sold at Boots. So needless to say, after searching the shelves thoroughly (I literally had to go to a different Boots stores to find it), I was really glad that I got hold of this product. I already tried this face mask and it is just so refreshing! I don’t have particularly dry skin (if you do, go pick it up!) but due to Malta’s heat I tend to be always either in the sun or in an air-conditioned room, leaving my skin drier than usual. If you live in the UK or simply can get hold of this easier than I did, I recommend the search as it’s a great pick-me-up.

Sanctuary Spa Deep Cleanse Facial 5 Minute Thermal Detox Mask

I can’t believe how much I love this mask already…and I only used it twice. As the name of the mask implies, this product heats up on application (which is already super awesome), giving your face a good clean. Since it heats up, it’s basically opening up those pores so as to really cleanse your skin and let the charcoal treatment work. Charcoal treatments are great for cleansing the skin and even better for reducing and/or getting rid of breakouts and blemishes. Personally, I have been struggling with breakouts around my chin and lower cheeks for some time now so I was super excited to get this. I desperately want the GlamGlow Super-Clearing Mud Mask Treatment but don’t afford the splurge, so this will have to do for now.

Rimmel London Scandaleyez Waterproof Kohl Kajal in Black

There wasn’t really a reason why I got this from the UK, as they are very easily found in Malta – but it’s waterproof and now I can tightline!

Bourjois Paris Rouge Edition Velvet in Hot Pepper (03)

I have a problem, I know. I definitely did not need another red lipstick. Excuse? – This has a matte finish! I’ve seen a couple of YouTubers talk about this product and how much they love it, so I decided to join the club – This lipstick does not budge! Not only is it matte (that means no hair getting stuck to your lips!), but it’s quite long lasting. I wore it the other night and after drinking two beverages and PizzaHut (guilty!), it was still on my lips. Now I have to admit, I did re-apply after dinner, but that’s just because I wanted to make sure the intensity would remain there.

Essie Nail Laquer in Mint Candy Apple

I just had to – the colour was calling out to me. As you may know, when it comes to applying nail polish, I rank amongst the worst and as a result, my nail polish chips in roughly 2 days. Not this one! This colour has been on my nails for 3 days now and no chipping whatsoever. And did I say that I skipped the base and top coat (bad of me, I know) ?! It’s that good. Apart from that, the colour pay off is amazing. I literally just applied 1 coat of this and it went on totally opaque. I am still stunned. Love it!

Collection Lasting Perfection Ultimate Wear Concealer in Dark (04)

I obviously stopped by the Collection stand in Superdrug purely for this product because I’ve heard so many people talk about it, yet I don’t know how I feel about this concealer. Yes, I must admit, I might have picked up a shade too dark (in my defense, there weren’t any testers for the shade lighter than this one) but what’s weird is that it conceals my under-eye circles beautifully, yet looks dark and gloopy on the rest of my face. As I said, I love it for my under eyes as it just blends so easily and the colour is perfect, making me look like I’ve got tons of sleep. On the other hand, when I tried to conceal my blemishes, I looked like I applied cream bronzer over my spots! The good thing about this is that (according to a friend) there are a couple of stores in Malta that stock this concealer so I’ll try and pop by to pick up a shade lighter.

Bourjois Paris Healthy Mix Serum in Dark Beige (55)

Yes, I know there’s the word ‘Dark’, and yes I’ve swatched it before buying it, but this product is just a tad too dark for me. Unlike the concealer, this just makes me look slightly tan (which I don’t mind as I’m slightly tanned already) which means that I just have to make sure I blend really well. Apart from the colour, the consistency is great and stays on for ages. Unfortunately I couldn’t find this anywhere online (neither ASOS) so that’s why I was over the moon when I found it in Superdrug.

Real Techniques Brushes/Tools: Complexion Sponge, Blush Brush, Powder Brush

Speaking of Superdrug, I went a little crazy when I saw that they had an offer on the Real Techniques line. Turns out, I got the sponge for free! I already had a couple of Real Techniques brushes so it was only suitable to add on to the collection. I’ve already used all 3 products (I’m still getting used to sponge application) and these brushes will most probably be my new staple brushes.

M.A.C. : Face and Body Foundation in C4 and 217 Blending Brush

Okay, can we just take a minute to let this sink in – I AM FINALLY A M.A.C. OWNER! Literally, OMG! I still can’t believe it. I walked into Selfridges (and stood out like a sore thumb due to the expression of awe on my face) and BAM! – all the high-end names under one ceiling! You name it – Urban Decay, Benefit, Guerlain, Jo Malone, Bare Minerals, Stila, Esteé Lauder, Elizabeth Arden and so on. Needless to say, I was dying inside and could barely contain myself.

Rant aside, I decided to opt for these two products purely because I have been wanting these two so badly for so long…and because I don’t afford buying more than two M.A.C. products at one go without my bank account screeching at me. I literally got a glimpse of their lipsticks and sadly decided to ignore what I just saw. Nonetheless, I am super pleased with this purchase and can’t wait to get some use out of them! Next M.A.C. purchase: Paint Pot in Soft Ocre and (most probably) their red lipstick, Lady Danger.

And those are all the beauty items I got on my trip to the UK!

Top 5 Lipsticks for Summer

Summer has finally started so I thought that’s it’s only fit to kickstart the season by sharing my top 5 Summer lippies.

Rimmel London New Moisture Renew Lipstick in In Love with Ginger – €8.44

I’ve been on the hunt for a beautiful orange-red lipstick for ages, and this Rimmel lipstick just fits that category perfectly. Smooth and creamy, this lipstick is one that suits most skin tones. Love it!

Sleek True Colour Lipstick in Amped – €5.99

Talk about a statement lip! This beauty is one of the most pigmented, matte yet, not drying lip product I own. I must admit – not my go-to colour, but I do try to push myself sometimes. I wear it mostly when I don’t feel like playing around with eye-make up, but still want to look put together. If you’re feeling adventurous, give this one a go.

Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipstick in Amethyst Shimmer – €6.49

For those who aren’t crazy over a super bold lip, I suggest you try this. I was drawn to this colour simply because I was venturing into more purple-based lipsticks. What I like most about this lipstick is that you can really build up the colour intensity, so that way you’re able to see what looks best on you.

e.l.f. Studio Matte Lip Colour in True Red – €4.86

You might recognise this product from previous posts, and because I love it so much, it’s worth another mention. This product is matte, yet creamy and simply gorgeous. Apart from being super-pigmented, it’s wears for quite a long which I really like. And it’s only €4.86!!

Revlon Colourburst Lip Butter in Macaroon – €6.61

Even though bold lips look beautiful in Summer, it’s good to take a break for those bright colours and go with something more natural. This lip butter applies beautifully and is great for on the go as you can get away with applying it without a mirror. Apart from that, it is very moisturising and gives your lips an effortless tint for Summer.

Hopefully you’ll get a better idea of what I’m talking about from these swatches:

Top 5 Drugstore Makeup Must-Haves

As we gather more and more makeup items, it seems that every now and then we always go back to our basic most loved products. After short listing a number of essential items, I was able to narrow it down to the top 5 makeup items that I think should be must haves.

Maybelline New York Instant Age Rewind Eraser Concealer  – €6.60

This baby is a life saver! It conceals those dark under eye circles making your eyes look nice and bright. I also use it to conceal any blemishes or breakouts that are currently loving my face to much to leave it alone. Nice coverage and is long-lasting. I definitely recommend!

Rimmel London Stay Matte Pressed Powder – €5.19

Ladies, powder is our best friend. Unless you don’t want to look like the sun, of course. If you’re like me, and get oily in the T-zone, it’s nice to go over your makeup with a powder, keeping everything in place and matte. Some people like a dewy finish, but I personally don’t like that look on me, so I powder my entire face for a matte finish all round.

Maybelline New York The Falsies Volum’ Express Mascara in Black Waterproof – €10.39

I’m not that fussy about mascaras but if I’m having a long day, I do opt for a waterproof mascara rather than the regular formula as waterproof mascara normally stays longer. With this mascara, I find that it stays put and most importantly, it doesn’t flake. This is one product that is worth the hype.

The Body Shop Honey Bronze Bronzing Powder – €15.98

Only this past year have I started using bronzer. I guess it’s one of those products that once you start using it, you never go back! I personally prefer a matte bronzer like this one, but you can always opt for something with shimmer. Just be careful when contouring with shimmery bronzer – you don’t want to become a disco ball, now do you?

Rimmel London Kate Lasting Finish Matte Lipstick in 107 – €6.92

I believe that every girl should AT LEAST (I say that loosely…you obviously need more than one!!) own one red lip product. It’s one of the holy grail makeup must haves and oh how I love them! Red lipsticks are sometimes quite tricky to wear as you don’t want it to bleed or move all over the place – that’s why I suggest going for a matte finish. It’s longlasting and easier to wear. This Rimmel lipstick is quite a berry lipstick, making some people chicken out of wearing a red lip. If you want to go for something lighter, you can always go for something like the e.l.f.’s Studio Matte Lip Colour in Rich Red.

And that’s all for today!

e.l.f. Haul

Another parcel came through the mail! After all this time ordering online, I can’t help but get excited when something arrives at my door. As you might have noticed from the post’s title, this time it’s a parcel from e.l.f. Cosmetics. I love buying products from e.l.f. because they have ongoing offers at really affordable prices.

This time round I decided to get some brushes and essentials rather than makeup itself. So let’s start off!

Total Face Brush – £1.95

I already have another one of these brushes so I got an extra one just so I can alternate between the two. Also, if I needed to blend some harsh lines or whatnot, I prefer using a clean face brush rather than one with product on it. This brush is from their Essential line, and at the price – it’s great. It’s quite fluffy, light and soft so I find it works best with powder and also contouring your face.

Blending Eye Brush – £1.95

This is also a brush that’s not new to my collection. I mainly bought it for the same reasons as the Total Face Brush – and you can never have enough blending tools. This is also from the Essential line and even though it may be slightly softer and fluffier, I find that it does the job.

Blending Wedges – £1.95

elf-haul-blending-wedges (1)

This blending wheel comes in a pack of 8 blending wedges and for just £1.95, it’s a good deal. These are intended to blend any harsh lines, but can also be used to stipple on your makeup such as foundation or blusher – anything that has a liquid or cream consistency. By stippling on your makeup you’ll be able to achieve a more natural, even look and whether you’re travelling, a beginner or don’t want to spend money on brushes, these are an ideal essential in your makeup bag.

Eyeliner Brush – £1.95

Lately, I’m really getting into using black eyeshadow as eyeliner – it’s easy and looks like you’ve put more work into it than you actually have. To apply the eyeshadow I was actually using e.l.f.’s Smudge Brush, and even though it works just fine, I wanted a flat eyeliner brush to see if it applies better. As you can see I’ve actually been using this with the colour ‘Ebony’ from Stila’s In the Light Palette. You can also use this brush for cream consistencies, not just powder and is great to get that sleek line when applying your liner.

Waterproof Eyeliner Crayon in Black – £3.95

I originally had got this in brown and loved it, so I decided to get it in black aswell. This eyeliner crayon is from their Studio line (that’s why it’s slightly more expensive) and if it’s anything like the brown one I have, it works great. It glides on really easily and stays on for a long time without particularly smudging. The only problem I have with this product (and I have the same problem with the brown one) is that the crayon itself is not very secure in its packaging. With the brown one, the crayon had even fallen out of the tube! Therefore, the product isn’t 100% steady in its tube which is a bit disappointing since it’s actually good and from their Studio line. Nonetheless, I would still recommend trying these out as the product itself is very good.

Small Precision Brush – £3.95

Also from the Studio line, this brush is ideal for eyeshadow application in the inner corner of the eyes. Since the bristles are short and packed together, but the handle is quite long, the brush provides good stability and densely packs the product onto the brush. It can also be used to apply concealer to blemishes.

Nail polish in Smoky Brown – £1

Even though this nail polish is not currently in season, I’ve been wanting a brown nail polish for ages. I’ve quite a number of e.l.f. nail polishes and they all go on quite smooth. It might two or three coats, but for just £1 – so what?!

When I purchased this order, e.l.f. sent me two FREE gifts for spending over £15:

Super Glossy Lip Shine in Pink Pop – £1.95

I must admit – I was quite happy with this gift. Even though I’m not really a fan of lip glosses, I own another three shades and I just love them. Firstly, they’re small and squeezable so they fit right into your handbag if you’re on the go. Secondly, I find that they give just the right amount of colour to your lips – I just love them!

Mineral Eyeshadow in Temptress – £3

This small loose pigment eyeshadow pot is from (as the name implies) the Mineral line and is a beautiful matte taupe colour. It will look gorgeous when blending into the crease as it gives just the right amount of depth and definition to your eyes. You do have to be careful with loose shadows as they can create a mess, but I’m excited to try it out.

Do you have any of the products I purchased? Did you find this interesting? Like the post! Share your thoughts and comments below!
