Review: Colour Elixir Lipstick

By now you most probably know my love for lipsticks. That’s why, in the past week I have reviewed Max Factor‘s Colour Elixir Lipstick! The line consists of  about 15 shades, however, I tried the colour Chilli (853).

As far as packaging goes, Max Factor never fails to disappoint! The packaging of the entire Colour Elixir line is glamorous with gold tones and shades. A small detail that I love about the packaging is that the actual lipstick colour can be seen at the bottom of the tube, which makes life easier when scouting for a particular lipstick (let’s admit, we’ve all been there!).

The product is enhanced with Vitamin E, keeping your lips luscious and soft. This also adds with a smoother application as it glides on easier than regular lipsticks, which it did.Since the formula is so soft and moisturising, there is really no need to layer any lip balms/aids underneath, which is also means that it’s easier to wear in the colder months. Moreover, I found that even though it’s red (a soft red, to be exact), it’s still a “no fuss” lipstick – so it’s great for a quick fix.
The colour is obviously a creamy red, but with a slight metallic finish. I would consider myself a “numerous coats” type of person, as I want my lipstick to be opaque. That being said, this lipstick has good pigmentation and lasts for quite a while – I would give it a two rich coats. That being said, you would need to touch up if you intend on eating or drinking.
Needless to say, I will definitely be getting my hands on other lipsticks from the line – possibly a me-to-me Christmas gift? Hmm..we’ll see 😉

Review: Max Factor Lipfinity

Exciting news! 🙂

blabberbeauty is participating in a University of Malta project regarding Social Media Strategies. This will be done through blabberbeauty, therefore, this section of the website will be dedicated solely to this project.  Stay tuned for brand reviews, tutorials and competitions!

Let’s kick off the project by talking about my latest lip discovery (and you all know how much I love lipsticks), the Max Factor Lipfinity Lip Colour in Glistening (102).

On the packaging of this duo product, it is stated that it is long-lasting, lasting even up to 24 hours! I never really tried long-lasting lip products mainly because I never thought the products would live up to their claims. Also, for the past year I had on and off dry lips so I always opted for moisturising lipsticks rather than longevity.

First of all, this product is really a duo product as there are two steps for a long-lasting application. First the lipstick itself needs to be applied – it’s more of a liquid lipstick, consistency-wise. The colour is really pigmented and dries super quick. That being said, it’s also easy to apply and actually applies really smooth. Additionally, the colour you see in the packaging, is what it will look like once it’s on the lips!

max factor lipfinity

After the first step is applied, you will have to wait around 30 seconds to continue to the second step. By then, the lipstick would have already gone tacky and probably dried. At this point, you will just need to go over your lips with a coat of the second applicator, which is a waxy product that seals everything in place and gives your lips that extra shine! 🙂 Throughout the day you would then only need to re-apply the second applicator and you’re good to go.

One thing to make sure when applying the product in general, is to have ‘dry’, clean lips – make sure no oil or product is on your lips before applying any of the Lipfinity range as the product won’t hold otherwise. Another thing to mention is that I have not tried this with any lip liner under it as I was told that it doesn’t really need one, which I have to agree.

After testing out the product a couple of times, I can definitely say that this one’s a keeper! It lasts all day! I’ve eaten and drank in it and it wouldn’t budge – especially if you re-apply from time to time, which I didn’t because I’m forgetful and lazy 😈

Needless to say, I will be definitely expanding my Lipfinity collection…I don’t know how I’ve been without them for so long!!

Top 5 Autumn/Winter Lipsticks

I don’t know about you, but Autumn is my favourite season. I love Autumn’s fashion (even though, I’m still learning how to layer outfits), makeup looks, change in weather, and everything else really. Even though in Malta, it still feels like Summer – it literally only rained once, and we’re sometimes having hotter days than in Summer – I still try to find any excuse to transition into the Autumn season.

Today, I’ll be sharing with you my favourite Autumn/Winter lipsticks. I must admit, the majority are red, but I can’t help it! In fact, that is why I merged the two seasons together because in Winter all I wear is either lip balm, or a red lip.

Rimmel London Apocalips Lip Laquer in Celestial – €7.79

These lip laquers from Rimmel are just amazing. They glide so smoothly, and their colour pay-off is ridiculous! Even though I like nude lips, I don’t find that it soothes me that much, so this (and another lipstick I’ll be showing you) is the next best thing. I absolutely love this!

Rimmel London Kate Lasting Finish Matte Lipstick in 107 – €7.14

This lipstick is probably my most worn lipsticks of all time! I just love it! The 107 has been such a hit in the beauty community – the winter season would not go by without someone raving about it. Not only is it a deep red, but it applies as a matte satin finish which is just gorgeous – this means that it will last more than your regular lipstick (most mattes last longer) without drying your lips out. I currently have super dry lips because of the medication I’m taking, and this feels so good on my lips. Can’t recommend it enough!

Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Colour Moisturising Lipstick in Power Red – €22.10

This gorgeous baby is the only high-end lipstick I own – and I absolutely love it! Unlike the Rimmel 107, it’s a creamy true red colour and has a gorgeous shine to it. Apart from the gold packaging being so luxurious and classy, the colour pay-off is outstanding – I went out to eat and after stuffing myself with food, it was still there on my lips! A bit pricey, I know – but you can always wait for a offer! 😉

The Body Shop ColourGlide Shine Lip Colour in 11 – Rare Coral

As I previously said, I’m not really a nude person as I feel that most nudes wash me out, but I don’t mind this one. It is actually the only nude I own and did get it as a gift – If I had to choose, I think I’d rather go for a nude with more pink-bluish undertones. This is mainly because I have yellow undertones to my warm-neutral skin, and therefore, products that have orange undertones can make me look even more yellow/orange. Nonetheless, I don’t mind this – it’s very creamy, smooth and hydrating. I only wore this a couple of times when I had heavier eye-makeup, and I liked the way it looked on me. This means I need to invest in some more nude lipsticks!

NYX Round Lipstick in Black Cherry (LSS575) – €5

This creamy lipstick is in a class of it’s own. I just love the intensity and colour pay-off this lipstick gives! Even though it is a very dark vampy red, it has brown and purple undertones to it that make it so wintery. Just like the Rimmel 107, it does not dry your lips out, being it is matte. Another thing I love about this product is that you can determine how dark your lips are going to be based on preference – you can really build this product up. Love it!

Here are the swatches for each lipstick mentioned 🙂 I apologise for the quality of some of the photos – Will try to get that sorted ASAP.

And that’s all for today!

July Favourites 2014

I can’t believe that July has already gone by! That means that Summer is almost over and the saddest thing about that is that I live in a country surrounded by water, yet I’ve only been swimming once 😦 On a positive note, the end of the month means it’s time for a monthly favourites! I’ve gone through the things I’ve used the most and narrowed it down to those items that discovered or re-discovered this month, if that makes any sense.

e.l.f. Lipstick in Classy

This was actually one of the first lipsticks I ever owned and I’m really glad I’m using it again. I had shoved it away for the longest time because I’m always trying new lip products but I took it with me to Birmingham as I wanted an everyday lip, and I immediately remembered why I love it! Even though it’s not that long-lasting, the colour pay-off is just so pretty. The creamy texture together with the colour gives that ‘my lips but better’ look which I absolutely love, especially in Summer.

Sanctuary Spa Deep Cleanse Facial 5 Minute Thermal Detox Mask

As you probably realized, I mentioned this product not too long ago in my Birmingham Haul. The reason I’ve included this in this monthly favourites is because I just can’t get enough of this face mask! I use it about twice a week (even three if I feel like a pick-me-up) and use it only on my problematic areas in conjunction with other face masks.

Collection Lasting Perfection Ultimate Wear Concealer in Dark (04)

Also from my Birmingham Haul is this concealer. It’s not something I particularly love, but I have been using it all month. I like using this mostly to cover up my dark circles and any redness (mostly around my nose). This concealer just makes my dark circles disappear – I actually have been using this together with the Maybelline Age Rewind concealer and it’s fantastic! I don’t use this on my blemishes only because I find it darkens them rather than conceals them. This might be because the shade is slightly dark. I still have to pick up a lighter shade, but other than that it works fine.

Primark Black Bowling Bag

I’ve been looking for an everyday bowling bag for a while now so I was so happy when I stumbled on this baby at Primark! The thing I love most about it is that it’s just the right size – I am not a very ‘big-bag’ type of person so this was just right. Even though it looks small, believe me when I tell you that I can fit a ton of stuff in there! And this is what I mean by the right size – you can fit your umbrella, purse, makeup bag and even(I must admit, not that comfortably) foolscaps. It’s great for everyday but you can also dress it up, which I love. And for just £8 this bag is an absolute bargain!

Primark Black Slip-on Shoes

I finally own a pair of slip-ons! Primark is full of these shoes so I went a bit overboard and bought 3 pairs (I know..), but in my defense they were only £3! I mean, how on earth would I pass on a bargain like that?! Anyway, not only do they go great with almost anything, but they’re also super comfortable. I’ve been living in these from the moment I got them and they didn’t tire me out or irritate my feet whatsoever. Definitely one of the best purchases I made on holiday!

And that’s all for this month’s favourites!

Top 5 Lipsticks for Summer

Summer has finally started so I thought that’s it’s only fit to kickstart the season by sharing my top 5 Summer lippies.

Rimmel London New Moisture Renew Lipstick in In Love with Ginger – €8.44

I’ve been on the hunt for a beautiful orange-red lipstick for ages, and this Rimmel lipstick just fits that category perfectly. Smooth and creamy, this lipstick is one that suits most skin tones. Love it!

Sleek True Colour Lipstick in Amped – €5.99

Talk about a statement lip! This beauty is one of the most pigmented, matte yet, not drying lip product I own. I must admit – not my go-to colour, but I do try to push myself sometimes. I wear it mostly when I don’t feel like playing around with eye-make up, but still want to look put together. If you’re feeling adventurous, give this one a go.

Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipstick in Amethyst Shimmer – €6.49

For those who aren’t crazy over a super bold lip, I suggest you try this. I was drawn to this colour simply because I was venturing into more purple-based lipsticks. What I like most about this lipstick is that you can really build up the colour intensity, so that way you’re able to see what looks best on you.

e.l.f. Studio Matte Lip Colour in True Red – €4.86

You might recognise this product from previous posts, and because I love it so much, it’s worth another mention. This product is matte, yet creamy and simply gorgeous. Apart from being super-pigmented, it’s wears for quite a long which I really like. And it’s only €4.86!!

Revlon Colourburst Lip Butter in Macaroon – €6.61

Even though bold lips look beautiful in Summer, it’s good to take a break for those bright colours and go with something more natural. This lip butter applies beautifully and is great for on the go as you can get away with applying it without a mirror. Apart from that, it is very moisturising and gives your lips an effortless tint for Summer.

Hopefully you’ll get a better idea of what I’m talking about from these swatches:

Top 5 Lipsticks for Spring

Top 5 Lipsticks for Spring

So Spring has just begun, and what’s better than sporting colourful lips?

I adore lipsticks, because I really do think they complete the look – from a full face of makeup to just having on some mascara, lipstick always seems to make things better. I tend to stick to my reds and pink toned lip products throughout the year because I’m used to them and if I’m on the go, they’re the colours I’d probably reach for. But going into Spring has made me want to try some more daring (in my case anyway) shades and so I came up with my own little ‘top 5 lipsticks’ for the season.

Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipstick in Heart Breaker (016)

The is the first Rimmel lipstick I have ever bought and it seems I just can’t get enough of. This pink shade is just beautiful for both day or night and stays on for ages! It is a creamy lipstick that gives you just the right amount of shine and feels so smooth on your lips. Perfect for those days when you don’t have time to apply a lot of makeup – slap on some mascara, lipstick and you’re good to go.

Heart Breaker

Sleek Makeup True Colour Lipstick in Coral Reef (772)

Bam! Now this is a Spring colour alright! Sleek couldn’t have come up with a better name for the line – Coral Reef is right on point! Firstly, I really like that the colour on the tube is the EXACT same colour as the product inside. Sometimes, the colour at the bottom varies from the actual product which is, well, disappointing and misleading. Anyway – back to the point of this post – this colour is stunning. I must admit, it’s probably a shade that doesn’t suit everyone since it’s quite vibrant, but then again, you decide how intense your application should be. I really recommend this one because it’s young, fun and energetic – and at Sleek’s affordable prices – why not?

Coral Reef

Rimmel London Apocalips Lip Lacquer in Big Bang (400)

This beauty is a recent purchase – I know, I know it’s ABOUT TIME! In my defense, I had been eyeing the Apocalips line since their release and have been going back and forth on purchasing one of them ever since. I mean – you can never have enough red lipsticks. Fact. Gorgeous packaging and gorgeous colour! This is definitely another must have not just for Spring, but all year round. The consistency is liquid as of a gloss but pigmented as that of a lipstick (hence, lip lacquer) so you do have to be careful when applying it. The applicator works fine but if you’re slightly clumsy or you tend to be heavy-handed, using a lip brush is the way to go. It does stay on for quite a long time but it might smudge or bleed if you attempt drinking or eating. Therefore I suggest using a lip liner or matte lip colour such as the e.l.f. Matte Lip Colour in Rich Red underneath it for it to sink in and stay on longer without smudging. Other than that, this lip lacquer is one of my favourite lip products of all time.

Big Bang

Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipstick in Sugar Plum (086)

I sense an occuring Rimmel theme here. I’ve decided throw in this pinkish-purple shade into the mix because purple tones are really in this season. For those who are still hesitant to sport these purple hues, this lipstick is the one for you! I wouldn’t consider this shade to be ‘plum’ as it’s more of a shimmery pink (a bit darker than fuchsia) lipstick with purple undertones. If you’re looking for a more purple toned lipstick, I would suggest trying out the Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipstick in Amethyst Shimmer (084). Just like the other Rimmel products I’ve mentioned, this goes on effortlessly and creamy. More of an evening colour I would say but if you’re able to pull it off during the day – good for you. Unfortunately, opposed to Sleek’s lipsticks, the colour on the bottom of the tube is not true to colour so do swatch the colour (unless you’re buying online). Nonetheless, still a beautiful lipstick and worth a try.

Sugar Plum

Revlon Colorburst Lipstick in Rosy Nude (065)

Introducing, my all time go to lipstick. Even though the Spring season is known for it’s vibrant colours, nude lipsticks are great for completing the look without drawing all the focus on your lips. This luscious, creamy lipstick just gives you the colour boost your lips need – kind of a “your lips but better” look. Even though it’s pigmented, this colour is perfect for on the go because you can apply it without being too perfect. Perfect for matching with floral outfits or even just a simple white dress – it looks good with almost everything! Love it.

Rosy Nude

To give you a better idea of how the colours show up on application, I took the liberty of swatching each product. I must admit, Rosy Nude looks brown for because it’s swatched on the skin, not the lips. When applied on the lips, the colour pay off is exactly as seen in the tube (like the picture above). Also, excuse the not-so-great lighting but I was using natural light.

That’s all for today – I hope you all enjoyed it 🙂
